A financing checklist for contractors

Start with the written project scope

Keep the project price, payment milestones, and changes to the work clear before discussing a financing option. Customers should be able to distinguish the construction agreement from the credit agreement.

Compare program agreements

Ask each provider for its fees, settlement conditions, cancellation process, and responsibilities when a customer disputes the work. Confirm when funds become available before planning payroll or materials purchases.

Explain the full cost

Present a monthly payment alongside the offered APR, repayment term, fees, and total borrowing cost. Avoid treating a calculator illustration as an approval or a quote.

Keep the next steps clear

Tell customers who receives their application and who can answer questions about the actual offer. Confirm what information the provider needs before collecting it.

Explore consumer financing and merchant payments to prepare questions for your provider.
