Questions to ask about point-of-sale financing
Identify the financing provider
Before offering a program at an estimate or checkout, identify the provider and read its agreement. Ask who makes the credit decision and which party handles customer questions.
Separate financing from payment acceptance
Compare the agreements for customer financing and card processing separately. Confirm fees, settlement conditions, refunds, and dispute procedures for each.
Make the customer offer understandable
Ask for the offered APR, payment schedule, repayment term, and total cost. Confirm the type of credit inquiry before the customer authorizes it.
Plan for changes
Ask what happens if work is cancelled, the project scope changes, or the customer raises a dispute. Do not assume that a financing program removes every business responsibility.
